How Chameleon Training can create change

Chameleon Training can provide you with the time, space, motivation and guidance to move your mind and body into the direction you want them to go. Through a truly holistic approach to your physical, mental and emotional health and well-being we tailor activities around you and your lifestyle. We are pretty immune to trends and about as far from bootcamps and bellowing as you’ll get. Working with us will involve anything from a carefully crafted gym programme to an outdoor Nordic walk.  We like to build strong relationships and make decisions based on exercise physiology, biomechanics and your unique and changing capabilities. We will cherish you as an individual with your own strengths and challenges.

    Mindset Training

What you are unconsciously thinking, or deliberately focusing your thoughts on, will significantly effect what your body can do. Throughout all training sessions, whatever your outcomes and abilities are, time will be devoted to ensuring your thoughts and overall mindset are working in concert with your body to create the change you want to see.

What to expect at Chameleon training

We are just like you, wanting to get the most from life and maximise the enjoyment in every day. As human beings, we thrive on making social connections and building relationships and this begins from day one. We know that we only repetitively do things we enjoy and that generate a reward, so we will find the activities that fit the bill. Our philosophy is as far as you can get from the adage ‘no pain, no gain. We seek to generate or achieve ‘no pain’. We aim to make your activities and everyday life as pain-free and fluid as possible. Humans are innately curious creatures, we will keep you engaged and curious about what your body and mindset can enable you to do that you may have not thought possible.

Julia Dalgleish

Director & Specialist Personal Trainer

A one-time rugby player and dance enthusiast, now an avid mountain walker and wine drinker with a love of Land Rovers and a passion for understanding what makes people tick, I have lived and breathed (often heavily) the fitness industry for over 20 years. I have specialised in teaching group exercise and personal training and done this alongside managing a health club, training hundreds of trainers, writing a text book on the anatomy of exercise and lecturing in exercise physiology and biomechanics in the UK, Europe and the US. Beginning with a Joint Honours BSc in physiology and psychology I have continued my education through personal training, Pilates, Muscle Activation Technique ®, Resistance Training Specialist ®, Neuro Linguistic Programming and GP referral courses in an attempt to understand the workings of and communication between the human body and mind. My current studies focus on back pain rehabilitation and supporting individuals who have undergone cancer treatment. Future courses will include a counselling certificate so I am able to further coach individuals through the challenges we all face in life. My philosophy is to integrate talking therapies with movement techniques that blend traditional exercises, yoga, Pilates and dance-based movements to create an enhanced sense of wellbeing.

Steven Atkins

Nordic Walking Instructor & Stretch Therapist

A former Royal Marine, Paratrooper, Special Forces soldier and holder of two Queen’s Gallantry Medals (QGM’s), Steven specialised in kidnap prevention across the world, before re-training as a tree surgeon. He was introduced to Pilates and Stretch Therapy ® following a life-threatening accident (involving a tree) and experienced the therapeutic nature of focused movement. Having a typical forces personality he is organised and thrives on making things happen; perhaps not so typically, he is endlessly cheerful and completely approachable. Movement matters; he firmly believes that activity is the key to an enjoyable and elongated life - along with the occasional glass of West Country Cider. He is passionately dedicated to motivating others to enjoy the world through an appreciation of the outdoors as a Nordic Walking ® Instructor, and to maximise movement potential through Stretch Therapy ®. He’ll also share his core skill – developing the ability to laugh at whatever life throws his way.

I have now been training with Julia for over 12 years. When I started I was a couch potato with a back problem - concerned about being so overweight and so unfit. Thanks to Julia I have now successfully jogged the entire 5K race for life without stopping (a huge achievement for me); last year I managed a group walking holiday in the mountains of northern Albania and I now jog round the downs regularly and enjoy walking as much as possible. I have lost 3 stone and am still losing weight. I feel much fitter and am so much happier.

Julia is a great personal trainer. She is incredibly well trained and knowledgeable about fitness; anatomy and how to support clients who are getting older and/or have medical issues. I trust her completely. She has given me the confidence to be able to push myself to my limits safe in the knowledge that it will be OK. Any pain or discomfort will be temporary and that in the long term I will be better for it. When I was being treated by a chiropractor for a shoulder problem Julia was happy to incorporate into my programme exercises he suggested.

When I was really stressed out and my health suffered because of work three/four years ago Julia ensured that I kept going and that the sessions with her helped me cope positively with it all. As my needs and aspirations have changed over the years so Julia has amended my programme to enable me to achieve my goals. She has ensured I have kept going and that I have continued to develop and become fitter and more able to do what I want physically.

Julia really does seem to care about her clients. It isn’t just about the money. She is willing to go that “extra mile”. I bless the day my friend recommended Julia as a personal trainer. 12 years on and both my friend and I are still with Julia. She is so much more than “just” a personal trainer.
